Violet grew up in Missouri and moved to Romulus, Michigan, during World War II, where she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter.” It was there that she met and married Fred Kirtlan, while he was stationed at Romulus Army Airfield. After the war, she moved with him to his hometown of Clarksburg, where she became a farmer’s wife. In addition to being busy working on the farm, she was active in the Clarksburg community, and volunteered at Methodist Hospital for many years. She spent many hours transporting her boys and their friends to and from sporting events and kept notes and score so she could report back to Fred. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing. However, her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge the following for their devoted care and assistance to Violet: Primary caregiver Azeb, caregivers Maria, Loti, and Nia; RN Jackie and the other Sutter Hospice staff; and the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Violet’s name to the charity of your choice.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, July 22 at 11am, at East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park, located at 9189 E. Stockton Blvd. Arrangements are under the care of Harry A. Nauman & Son, to sign the online guestbook please visit www.harryanauman.com.
