Richard was the "brother" that always made me feel welcome. He always seemed glad to see me, no matter how long between visits. I loved the banter with him and the big brother perspective.

I remember years ago he was at my "other" mother's beckon call since she didn't drive. Once I had my driver's license, I helped out by taking her places. He was a good son to her. I miss Mary and now I will miss Richard. Two very special people!

On behalf of World Bird Sanctuary, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mallien family on the passing of Rich. It is difficult to put into words what Rich's contribution to RRPP and WBS meant. He was, and to this point still is, the longest tenured volunteer in the history of our organization. We looked forward to every day Rich would spend with us and all of the valuable work that he did for the birds we care for. He accomplished so much for our mission and he will never be forgotten. Generations of us knew and worked with him for 40 years. We will miss him so much. RIP, Rich.
