Rita Carma Davis, 94, went to Heaven to be with her “Honey,” the love of her life, on Sunday, March 30, 2025. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Rita was born on December 21, 1930, in Springdale, Arkansas, to Ivan and Lois Lee. She lived a fun and active life—playing softball, cheerleading, and playing the snare drum in school. She was well-liked and deeply loved by her friends, known for her outgoing personality and the joy she brought to those around her. After graduating from high school, Rita became a hairdresser. At the age of 21, while working, she was reunited with Walter Davis, a handsome Army soldier who swept her off her feet. Just three days later, they were married, beginning a loving union that lasted nearly 68 years. Rita and Walter were lifelong companions and best friends, building a life centered on God and family. They were blessed with six children.
Life as an Army wife came with many challenges, especially with six children. Rita gracefully took on the role of both parents when Walter was away serving his country. She was a wonderful and devoted mother to all of her children. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Rita was an incredibly talented artist. Her artwork, inspired by her love of the Southwest, won awards in the art community and was showcased in annual art shows. Rita was also active in her church and served as president of her local Women’s Aglow groups. Her outreach and leadership blessed many women and left a lasting impact.
Rita is survived by her children: Cindy Hollars, Billie Esses, Walter (Neva) Davis, Gary (Debbie) Davis, and Connie (Robert) Whalen; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and siblings Melba Kovics, Robert (Polly) Lee, and Nona Stone. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter; their son, David; and their great-granddaughter, Madison. Rita will always be remembered for her deep love of God, family, and friends, her fun sense of humor, her strength, and her caring spirit. She touched the hearts of all who knew her.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue… Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
