Robert Arthur Kirchner, 81, passed away on January 28th, 2025 in his home in St. Augustine, Florida. He was born on September 9th, 1943, in New Jersey to his parents, Raymond Arthur Kirchner and Olga Verena Kirchner. He was an honorable member of the United States Air Force and a proud Eagle Scout. He dedicated his professional career to the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. and worked at American University as a professor. Upon completing his tenure at DOJ, and not one to fully retire, he established himself as an independent consultant working with local communities nationwide to continue his passion for improving the justice system.
Bob lived in Annapolis, Maryland for many years with his loving wife, Betty, and enjoyed being a member of the Eastport Yacht Club. He loved racing sailboats on Saturdays, vacationing in Islesboro, Maine with his family and friends, and cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Orioles. He moved to Florida in 2013 to enjoy the sunshine and his well-earned retirement. As a member of St. Francis in the Field Episcopal Church, Bob continued to volunteer and serve the community.
Bob and Betty Mullis Kirchner were married August 12, 1966. They have two children, Thomas Arthur and Pamela Elizabeth, as well as five grandchildren, Arden William Bergstrom, Calvin Thomas Kirchner, Gweneth Mae Bergstrom, Owen Christian Kirchner, and Rhys Andrew Bergstrom. Bob was so thrilled to have so many wonderful grandchildren. As a truly dedicated “Poppy,” he brought Dunkin Donuts over every Saturday morning without fail. Granted, that was just a perfect excuse to see his family and that was always his greatest joy.
Services for Bob will be held at St. Francis in the Field in Ponte Vedra, Florida located at 895 Palm Valley Road, Ponte Vedra, Florida 32081 on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 at 10am. A reception and celebration of life will follow at the church.
