I worked with Joe for many years. He was a true professional, always willing to help, enjoyed the challenge of solving any kind of problem. Because of that, he was sought out by many people, within and outside of our function.
But more than that, Joe was such a decent human being. No matter what the situation, Joe was always the "adult in the room". I am glad to call him my friend.

Joe was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 493, sponsored by Samuel UCC Church in Clayton, in the late 1970's and early 1980's when both of my sons, Geno and Tony joined the Troop. He was a great leader and a terrific example for many boys and he helped them grow into fine men. For many years we went on hikes and camp outs together along with his successor Scout Master, Rex Hill. I succeeded Rex Hill as Scout Master over 20 years ago and have been building on their traditions ever since. Boy Scout Troop 493 recently celebrated 71 years since its founding.
Thanks to Joe for all of his efforts!!

Our St Louis family, lead by Uncle Joe and Aunt Shirley showed us the meaning of family and how to lead by example. Since I married into the family, back in 1977, I can not remember one family event that they did not make that commitment and drive from St Louis to Chicago. The unwavering love and support was proven, time and time again. They were my favorite house guests and my favorite weekend get away. Well into his 80's, Uncle Joe would join in whatever activity was going on. His 90's not doubt would have been the same if not for his physical limitations. Whether a picnic, a party, or fireworks under the arch. A cross between parents, after ours passed, peers that we love hanging out with, historians that held the stories and secrets of previous generations and friends that we cherished, each and every time we were together. His idiosyncrasies were legendary. We could lovingly laugh with him and enjoy his thrifty side and quirkiness. Then realize, we had a little bit of all that in us as well. His generosity came from offering of his time and knowledge and his love . Always ready to share a story, a tip or a bit of education. Uncle Joe will always have my respect, my admiration, and my love. His time has come for him to enjoy all the fruits of his kindnesses and energies shared with so many. To say, there is a place in heaven for him may sound trite, but in this case, So very true! Give Jim a hug from all of us.
