Gerald Marvin Fleet

Gerald M. Fleet, 87, of Salem, Massachusetts, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023. He was born September 18, 1935 to the late William and Clair Fleet. Predeceased by his wife of 42 years Janet Fleet who passed away in January 2023.

Gerald grew up in Lawrence and went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire. He raised his family in Swampscott and Salem.

He was a long time, dedicated member of Temple Emanu-El in Marblehead. Gerald could often be found volunteering at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem where he loved working with dogs. He enjoyed the water, sailing, and skiing as well.

He cherished his time spent with his family and friends. In his most recent years, there was nothing better than walking his Cocker Spaniel, Shanna, and stopping to chat with every neighbor along the way.

Gerald is survived by his children, Sam Fleet & Daughter-in-Law, Debra Fleet, Peter Rich & Daughter-in-Law, Ellen Sullivan, Anthony Rich and Daughter-in-Law, Nilsa Rich; grandchildren, Danielle Bieler, Zachary Fleet, Henry Rich, Jane Rich, Rebecca Rich, Emily Rich, Joseph Rich; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Archie Fleet and Skylar Bieler; sister, Libbie Glazer.

A Chapel Service will be held Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 10:00AM at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin Street, Salem, MA 01970 with interment at Greenview Memorial Park, 232 Fuller St, Everett, MA 02149. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
