Harriett S. (Levine) Kaplan

Harriett Kaplan 96, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by her adoring family. Beloved wife of Ralph Kaplan (of blessed memory), with whom she spent 68 wonderful years of marriage. Devoted daughter of Sophie (Kramer) Levine and Joseph E. Levine. Cherished mother of Anne and Bob Selby, Roz and Brian Moore, Susan Kaplan (of blessed memory), and Judy and Bill Mishkin. Revered grandmother of Joe and Ari Selby, Steve and Rachel Selby, Kate and Dan Urman, Scott and Anne Moore, David and Samantha Mishkin, Amy and Seth Johns, Jaime Moore (of blessed memory) and 14 great-grandchildren. Harriett’s legacy will endure for generations to come. She was the quintessential role model, instilling in her family the virtues of kindness, generosity, gratitude, humility, and helping those in need. Her home was a welcoming center for all, filled with love, laughter and an endless supply of great food.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 10 AM at Congregation Shirat Hayam, 55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott, MA. Interment at Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery, Temple Israel Section, 506 Lowell Street, Peabody, MA. Following interment, Harriett’s family invites guests to Congregation Shirat Hayam, 55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott, MA from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harriett’s memory can be made to Epstein Hillel School, 6 Community Road, Marblehead, MA 01945 or the charity of your choice.
