

Max Ross – A native of Boston, longtime resident of Brooksby Village, Peabody, Waltham, Marblehead and Chelsea. Entered into rest May 18, 2012 at the age of 91 years. Beloved husband of the late Henrietta (Newman) Ross. Son of Harry and Etta (Zeramby) Ross. Father of Barbara and Harriet Ross. Grandfather of Benjamin, Sarah and Emmett Luke. Longtime dear companion of Jacqueline Giles. Brother of Irene Finkle and the late Bernard Ross, who was killed in action during WW II and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Graduate of Chelsea High School, where he served as co-editor of the school paper and interviewed comedian Fred Allen and such baseball greats as Joe Cronin, Jimmy Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Dizzy Dean, Bob Feller and Red Williams.
He received his B.S. in Journalism from Boston University after being drafted into the US Army where he served 34 months in England, France, Belgium and Netherlands.
Mr. Ross taught for 35 years in the Chelsea public schools including many years as faculty advisor to the school publications. He also did part-time work on newspapers in Chelsea, Revere, Malden, Melrose, Lynn, Salem and Peabody and as sports editor of the Melrose Evening News where he covered home games of the Patriots for 2 years and the Celtics from 1974-1986.
Past president of the Chelsea Teachers Club and Chelsea Retired Teachers Association. First 3-term president of the former David A. Lourie B’Nai B’rith Lodge during which time he introduced then Congressman John F. Kennedy as a guest speaker, chairman of the Chelsea A.R.C. Blood Bank Drive when it set a city record and also conducted super-successful events at the former Naval Hospital which featured as speakers Bobby Doerr, Dom Dimaggio, Billy Goodman and Freddy Hatfield.
Funeral Services at the Brooksby Village Chapel, 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody on Monday, May 21, 2012 at 12 Noon. Interment at Congregation Shirat Hayam Cemetery, Temple Israel Section, Peabody. Memorial Observance will be held following the interment at the catering room at Brooksby Village. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be donated to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the charity of one’s choice.
