

APPEL, Nancy R., age 89, of Swampscott, died peacefully on March 8, 2025. Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Appel, with whom she shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. She was the daughter of Harry and Tilly (Rosenberg) Miller. Nancy is survived by her three cherished children, Vicki (Mark) Engelberg, Howard Appel, and Dana Appel Young, who are so grateful for having such an incredible mother. She will be dearly missed by her beloved grandchildren: Robert Appel, Michael Appel, Stephen Appel (of blessed memory), Samantha (Ivan) Mata, Harrison (Hannah) Young, and Charlie Young, and her precious great-granddaughter, Frida Mata. She was the dear sister of the late Patricia Minsk and had many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Raised in Roxbury, MA, she attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where she met her husband, Jerry, and made wonderful lifelong friends. Nancy was known for her smiling face and generous sense of humor. She loved the arts, subscribed to the Boston and Miami City Ballet, and always loved the movies. Nancy was very involved at Temple Emanu-El and served on the board and as President of the Temple Sisterhood. She loved tennis and led a very active life as a member of the Jewish Community Center of the North Shore. Nancy was a Boston sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox. Funeral Services will be held at Temple Emanu-El, 393 Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead, on Tuesday, March 11, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park in Sharon. A reception and condolence calls may be made following the interment from 2:30 PM to 5 PM at Temple Emanu-El in Marblehead.
