

Samuel Weener age 95 of Marblehead, died on Tuesday after a brief illness in the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers. Born in Chelsea the son of the late Isadore and Sarah (Shaffer) Weener he graduated from Chelsea High School. He had resided in Marblehead since 1959. With his late father they operated Weener’s Market a retail kosher market in Chelsea from the 1930’s to the 1950’s. From 1955 to 1959 he was associated with the wholesale beef industry and from 1959 to 1989 he was a co-proprietor of the Sprague Bros., Co., Inc., in Roxbury. In 1989 he became a consultant to Frank Bertolino Beef Co., in Boston until his death. He was a World War II Army veteran and member of the Jewish War Veterans, the Ocean Hammet Masonic Lodge, the Knights of Pythias, a life member of B’nai B’rith Market Lodge, a former member of Temple Israel of Swampscott and Cong. Beloved husband of the late Edith (Klein) Weener. Devoted father of Barbara Lee and her husband Isaac Benhaim of Israel, Barry Weener of Marblehead and the late Ronald Scott Weener. Loving brother of Daniel and his wife Florence Weener of Needham, Milton Weener of Natick, the late William and his late wife Freda Weener and Albert Weener. Cherished grandfather of Miki Benhaim, Sarit Benhaim, Seth and Derek Weener, Kory and Zach Weener and great-grandfather of Shai Polishook. Services at the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St., Salem-Swampscott line on Sunday Feb. 19 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in the Cong. Shirat Hayam (Temple Israel Section), Lowell St., Peabody. Memorial Observance at his late residence following the interment until 9:00 p.m., Monday 2-9 p.m., and Tuesday 4-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in his memory may be donated to the charity of your choice.
