Alma Viola Barker was the sixth child born to Edith Mattie and Kino Goodman Barker in Corvallis, Oregon on March 18, 1929. Alma met and married Raymond Austin Youmans in 1948 and celebrated 57 years of marriage. They met in church at 445 Ferry Street in Salem, Oregon. Raymond went home to be with his heavenly Father in 2005. Alma and Raymond were involved in ministry with the Church of God. They pastored in Reedsport, OR (1967-1970), Portland, OR (10 years), and Prineville, OR (over 3 years). Alma has lived in Salem, Oregon since 2002, and the last four years in Avamere Assisted Living in Keizer, Oregon.
Alma accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in 1940 at age eleven. She loved yellow roses, sewing, crafts and writing poetry. Over the years, she collected thousands of salt and pepper shakers. Alma’s favorite place was the Oregon Coast.
She is survived by her daughters, Suesan, husband Reno Clavette, Dorothy, husband Bud Van Norman. A third daughter, Ruth Youmans, preceded her in death. Alma is also survived by seven brothers and two sisters, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a great, great grandchild.
A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, November 17th at 2:00pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home at 605 Commercial Street SE Salem, Oregon 97301. A committal service will follow at the Belcrest Memorial Park at 1295 Browning Ave. S, Salem, Oregon 97302.
