With heavy hearts we share the unexpected passing of our beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin Alycia McBride who left us far too soon on January 1, 2025 in her home. Born in Corvallis, Oregon in 1984 she attended Hoover Elementary, Highland View Middle and Crescent Valley High. Alycia had very recently made her home in Salem.
Alycia’s absence will be deeply felt by her mother, two brothers, her grandparents, four grandaunts and granduncles, seven aunts and uncles, and many cousins. She is now at rest in God’s eternal care, reunited with her father and other cherished family members.
Alycia was known for her bond with family, keeping track of extended family and taking time to visit her grandparents. Her quiet presence, coupled with her soft smile, could brighten a room. And though she spoke little, her dry wit and wry sense of humor were ever-present, bringing joy to those fortunate enough to know her.
A true steward of the environment, Alycia’s passion for conservation was evident in every aspect of her life. She found solace in nature, capturing its beauty through her photography, bird watching, skywatching, and frequent trips to experience the wildlife in nearby refuges. She liked animals and found joy in caring for several small pets throughout her life. The compassion that Alycia showed to her family, friends and the environment extended to all that knew her.
Though Alycia faced a lifetime of challenging and painful neurological struggles, she confronted each day with courage and a determination to live as independently as possible. Creativity flowed through her whether in music appreciation, crafting, or award winning crochet and photography, a testament to her attention to detail and quiet artistry. She was always looking forward to the next concert, frequent trips to natural areas, and visiting family. Her life, though short, was a precious gift—a life that touched us in lasting ways.
The family expresses gratitude to the disability professionals who walked alongside Alycia throughout her journey.
In honor of Alycia, the family suggests that donations be made in Alycia's name to your local Humane Society shelter, the Oregon Epilepsy Association, or the National Audubon Society.
You slipped away in the quiet of night,
A spark that flickered, then took its flight.
You left us before we could say,
How much we loved you, every single day.
Though you left too soon, love doesn’t end,
it just transcends.
Our hearts ache with what we can't undo,
But your hard life was a gift from you.
We’ll never forget the love you gave,
The quiet times, the fun times we made.
Though you’re gone from this world, may your spirit stay near,
To help carry us onward without you here.
Smile upon us, help our hearts find peace,
Wrap your healing arms around us, beautiful one.
You are the star that glistens through trees,
The quiet moment of a soft breeze.
We love you, we remember you, we miss you so,
And bring you with us wherever we go.
Alycia, you are forever in our hearts. Rest in peace.
