Daisy Woodrum was born in Guymon, OK to Lennie and Eva Woodrum. She was one of four brothers and four sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ivan Chase, brothers Bill, Avis, L.B., Virgil Woodrum and sister Goldie Barnes.
Mom is survived by sisters Evaleen Sapp of Turner and Jean Jandera of Salem, son David and wife Nelda of Turner.
Mom survived the Great Depression of 1929 and the dust bowl of OK, which started in 1930. The family moved to OR when mom was 13. The family traveled in an 18’ travel trailer with 8 people in an old Model A car.
Growing up, mom worked training hops, picking beans, at the cannery, and as an assistant at Evaleen’s kindergarten. Mom met Dad at the Turner Assembly of God Church when they were teenagers. After Dad came home from the service, they were married on Feb. 13, 1947.
I was born Oct. 1, 1951 and the folks took me to church when I was 5 days old and I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior at age 5. Our church taught me the value of memorizing Bible verses, how to talk to God, and that God had purpose and plan for my life. Mom made sure that I knew the value of hard work and how to save money, by taking me to pick field crops. Cousin Chuck (Goldie’s son) and I were nearly expelled from the strawberry field when our berries became airborne. Mom’s greatest joy in life was her family, church, Christian TV, and reading the Bible. She was a faithful wife and mother. Even though she was a great cook, she loved to dine out; especially at buffets.
We will truly miss her but know that we will be seeing her soon. Mom is Home at last.
Love you mom, David and Nelda
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
