Dennis was born in Longford, Kansas to Carl and Meda Brenner and graduated from Longford High School in 1942. With the passing of his father, and upon graduation, Dennis relocated to Oregon, ultimately landing a job in Salem with Montgomery Wards. His mother later joined him in Salem.
In 1946 while attending Merritt Davis School of Commerce, Dennis met and married Magdalene Jackman. They had two children, David and Becki. Later that year, he met Paul Lippold, and they formed an accounting firm that is now known as Brenner & Company. Under their leadership and with the addition of several partners, Brenner & Company became the largest, privately owned accounting firm in the State of Oregon.
Dennis’ life was guided by a deep, consistent faith in Jesus Christ. As a long-time member of Capital Park Wesleyan Church, he taught Sunday school, served on building committees, was a Church Conference delegate and a member of the Board of Trustees. Perhaps his most visible achievement was leading a team to build the Southeast Neighborhood Community Center adjacent to the Capital Park Wesleyan Church. Today, this center stands as an “opportunity center” for kids and their families by providing education, recreation and spiritual instruction.
Besides his faith, Dennis loved his family and relationships with clients, friends and business associates. He loved sports, and particularly baseball.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father, mother and his wife, Magdalene. He is survived by his wife Lois; son David Brenner and daughter-in-law Beverly; daughter Becki Brenner-Stauber, grandsons Nick, Derek and Tyler Stauber; granddaughter Julia Brenner; step-sons David, Paul and Wayne Campbell and their families; and several great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Capital Park Wesleyan Church in the Southeast Neighborhood Community Center Gymnasium located at 410 19th Street SE, Salem, OR, 97301. A private, family graveside service will follow on Monday, February 2.
To commemorate Dennis Brenner’s life, his family encourages contributions to the Capital Park Wesleyan Church and the Southeast Neighborhood Community Center. Dennis is in the care of Howell Edwards Doerksen Funeral Home.
