Don was a loving and devoted husband and father. He thoroughly enjoyed dentistry and reluctantly retired in 1982 due to a worsening tremor. He and Muriel enjoyed retirement together, and were rarely apart.
Don enlisted in the Marines when he was 17 years old and when World War II began he was deployed to the Pacific Theater. While defending Corregidor he was captured by the Japanese. Don spent over 3 years as a POW, experiencing horrors and atrocities that no human should endure.
After being liberated and returning home he met Muriel, his soul mate and the love of his life, and 5 months later they were married. Since she passed away on 11-11-10, he has missed her dearly.
They had 3 children - Linda, Louise, and Dale, as well as 5 grandchildren Chris, Ben, Amber, Matt, and Laura.
We will always miss him, but know he was happy to join Mom, when he left us on his birthday.
A private family service will be held. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 1 at 11:00 am at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland with Honor Guard, everyone welcome. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 54250-0301.
