To say that Gayle was a people person would be an understatement. Volunteering was her calling. She attended the Capitol Park Wesleyan Methodist Church for over 70 years, and volunteered with the Ladies Fellowship. She also volunteered at the Salem Hospital for 20 years. She helped take care of the elderly people in her life. Gayle was employed with the Oregon State Hop Lab for 20+ years.
Though she was born in Nebraska, on June 16th, 1925, she moved to Salem as a young girl. Here is where she would become a pillar of the community, and also met the love of her life, Lester Herbert Archer. She was married to him for 66 years, until he went to be with our Lord on January 14th, 2008.
Gayle is survived by her three daughters, Twyla Archer, Rebecca (Edward) Rossborough, and Suzanne Gordon; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Brooke, Lance, Ed, and Crystal; and five great grandchildren, Kalani, Lilly, Ryan, Franklin, and Wyatt.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 31st from 1-5 at Golden T. Virgil Funeral Service (605 Commercial St SE, Salem) from 1-5 pm. There will be a funeral service, also at the funeral home, on Monday, August 1st at 10 am, with burial after at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
