

Ken was born in Fresno, California on September 12, 1938. When he was only 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Hector. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Joanne. Ken and Joanne had three daughters and were together until her death in 2018. In the late 1960’s, Ken moved his family to Alaska and fulfilled his dream of owning a salmon troller. He and Joanne ran the fishing boat for several years before they moved back to Oregon to retire. He was a hardworking man who loved taking long drives down country roads in his pickup and listening to Johnny Cash with the windows rolled down. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Kathryn Bartels and Karen Howard; nine beautiful grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis D. Howard; his mother, Geraldine Howard; his wife, Joanne Howard; and his daughter, Kimberly Howard.
There will be a viewing for those wishing to pay final respects from 2:30-4pm, Saturday, March 25th, 2023, at Virgil T Golden Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon. There will be no funeral service. The celebration of life for close family and friends will be at his daughter’s house in West Salem. Arrangements are being managed by the family.
