Lowell was born on December 31, 1945 in Salem, Oregon and was the son of Richard and Thelma (Helton) Stice. He graduated from South Salem High School in 1964 and enlisted in the United States Air Force directly after. He worked as an Airplane Mechanic and was stationed in both Guam and Okinawa. He was proud to be one of the first mechanics on the well-known high speed SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft. He received an honorable discharge in 1968.
On November 28, 1969, he married Marjorie Beselin in Salem and they had three daughters, Brooke, Amber and Cinnamon. He worked as an industrial insulator for the Heat, Frost and Asbestos Workers Union Local 36 out of Portland. Through the union he worked at Trojan and Hanford Nuclear sites, various paper mills throughout the Willamette Valley, the shipyards in Portland, on oil rigs in California, and the pipeline in Alaska. In the early 1990’s he became disabled and later retired from the insulating business.
Lowell was a gentle and kind man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed classic Chevy cars and trucks, airplanes, trains and old tractors. He also enjoyed being around the families’ horses and cats, traveling and watching movies, especially comedies and westerns. His family was his world and he took every opportunity to support them in their own ventures and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lowell is survived by his wife Margie of Salem; daughters, Brooke of Salem, Amber of Anna, Texas and Cinnamon of Salem. He is also survived by his brother, Wilbur of Arizona and was preceded in death by his siblings, Norma Beth, Barney and Bonnie.
