Paul Wilson was everything a  coach should ever be.  He was passionate about the pole vault and many of those he coached went on to great success.  That being said everyone who ever worked with Paul felt like they were a great success.  He gave freely of his time to all that vaulted.  He gave freely of his poles for all who needed the proper equipment.  Most importantly he was an ambassador for track and field and the model we all should aspire to.  He  will be missed by all who knew him.

Hello! I was lost for words when I got word that Paul had passed away. I first met Paul when I moved back to Oregon in 1996. During that winter and spring of 1997 I volunteered coaching at Willamette University and Paul was coaching the collegiate vaulters, Salem TC groups and others. Instantly we became friends and when I took over as the HC at Willamette he was our PV coach for the next 8 years I was there. I learned A LOT being around Paul and watching him work with all age ranges. He treated everyone as a current and future star in the vault and in life. He so loved everyone and always gave praise and guidance. Never a harsh word ever. The north end of our track where the PV area was located was like an ant farm every day with dozens and dozens of age group - master age vaulters and parents showing up. He never met an athlete he didn't think would be a great Pole Vaulter :). I loved Paul and will miss him dearly. Love to Connie, Dallas and the rest of the family!
