

R. Kent Grimes, of Salem, OR, passed away in his sleep just 3 days after his 74th birthday, on April 30th. He was devout in his Mormon faith, an avid cyclist, an outdoorsman of all kinds, a firefighter, a veteran, a good dad, loving husband, and excellent grandfather.
Kent was born April 27th, 1952 in Sacramento, CA, the first of 5 children born to Martha (Parsons) Grimes/Griffin. Kent enlisted in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a Firefighter for 7 years, and 15 years of Firefighting with the Air National Guard at Portland International Airport. He also drove for Cherriots for many years.
Kent was well known in his community for serving a stake mission in the Royal Oaks Ward. He also worked to develop the Catamont Trails at Silver Falls State Park.
Kent is survived by his wife Kathleen Grimes, Sons Matthew Grimes (Mariah Grimes) and Aaron Grimes (Devy). Grandchildren Gavin Kennedy-Grimes (Nicole), Aidan Kennedy-Grimes (Indie), Jimi Grimes (Elena), and Maeve Grimes. Siblings Bob Grimes (Peg Grimes) and Brian Grimes (Tiffany McCarroll). Aunts Pam and Helen. Preceded in death by his children Kelli Grimes and Jesse Grimes, and his sister Doylene Cramp.
The service to celebrate Kent’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 45th st NE Salem, OR, Tuesday May 12, 2026 at 10:30am. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
