Richard “Dick” Bruno, 80, of Tualatin, Oregon, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Boston and raised in Revere, Massachusetts, Dick carried with him a deep appreciation for history, learning, and the natural world. He graduated from Boston State Teacher’s College and earned his master’s degree from Ohio University—an academic journey that shaped a remarkable 35-year career as a beloved history professor at Portland Community College. His students and colleagues remember him for his inspiration, warmth, and gift for bringing the past to life.
Dick had a wide range of hobbies that reflected his curiosity and zest for living. He loved sailing, golf, fishing, and photography, and he found great joy in cooking for family and friends.
Above all, Dick was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet (Coleman) Bruno; his son Steve Bruno and daughter-in-law Susan Sherman; his cherished grandchildren, Miles and Eleanor; and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters, Roberta Mulcahey and her husband Robert, and Lisa Bruzzese and her husband Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Josephine Bruno of Revere, MA. Dick’s warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His legacy lives on in his family, his students, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and love.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 22nd at 1 PM at the Tualatin Country Club.
