Robert Francis McNally, Sr. passed peacefully with his wife and family by his side on February 27, 2023, in Salem, Oregon. Bob was born on January 6, 1934, in Portland, Oregon. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and attended the University of Portland. He worked many years in sales for GMAC and FMC. In 1979, he relocated his family to Salem, where he owned and operated The Tiller Shop for several years. Bob loved working with automobiles and finished his career in fleet sales in Sublimity. His favorite hobbies were spending time with family, golfing, reading, gardening, and traveling, especially along the Oregon coast. He also enjoyed racing his ‘67 Buick Riviera at Woodburn Dragstrip with his family and attending sports and music events with his children and grandchildren. Bob will be greatly missed and remembered for his sense of humor and ability to tell stories, many with him as the source of laughter in the punchline.
Bob met his first wife, Virginia, at the University of Portland, and they had four children together.
Bob met Christine in 1989 in Salem. They were married in 1998 and were blessed with 24 years of marriage.
Bob is survived by his wife, Christine Deibert McNally; his children: Robert (Jenny) McNally, Jr., Suzanne (Craig Smith) McNally, Elizabeth (Geoff) Irwin, and Daniel (Marianne) McNally; mother-in-law Gladys Deibert; brother Jack (Lois) McNally; former wife Virginia McNally; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023. The service will be followed by an Open House Celebration of Life at his son Dan’s home at noon. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
