Robert "Bob" George Schafer, age 81, of Aumsville, Oregon passed away on Wednesday October 9, 2019, surrounded by his family. He had been living at Brookstone Alzheimer's Special Care Center. Bob was born March 12, 1938 in Silverton, Oregon to Helen and John Schafer.
Bob started working at Monarch Foods during summers while in high school. He stayed in that profession for over 40 years. He loved working as superintendent for Truitt Brothers. Bob had more hobbies than can be listed. The beautiful thing was that the whole family participated in every one he came up with. He loved teaching his kids and grandkids "how to" on all of them. There were lots of trips to dig rocks, fish, go to flea markets, camping, museums, and on and on.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Etta (Cooper); sister, Jean (Gary) Braden of Gresham; brother, Fred (Barbara) of Lebanon; his four children, daughter Bobbi (Steve) Burton of Tidewater, son Douglas (Tina) of Salem, daughter Tina of Aumsville, and son James of Aumsville; his 6 fantastic grandchildren; and his 13 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Wounded Warriors, or the Salem Salvation Army. The family would like to thank Brookstone Alzheimer's Special Care Center and Willamette Valley Hospice for their outstanding care and service.
A private graveside service will occur Saturday, October 26, 2019. A memorial service will occur Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1350 Commercial Street SE, Salem, OR 97302.
