Ron graduated from South Salem High School in 1966. Shortly after graduation he joined the US Air Force, serving 20 years from 1967 – 1987. In 1967, he was sent to Vietnam and served for one year. Ron was always so proud of his country and his service. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
After retiring from the military, Ron moved to Bend, Oregon where he worked for the Red Cross. It was there that he met Shannon, his wife of 20 years. They returned to Salem in 2004 and Ron worked at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen Funeral Home until he officially retired a few years ago. It was a perfect ending of his work because Ron had such a kind heart and loved helping people.
