Rosalee June Kostur

Rosalee was born June 10, 1929 in Bremerton, Washington to Harry C. Maston and Mabel Amidon Maston. The youngest of three children, she had two brothers Gale and Wayne Maston.

Rosalee grew up on Rocky Point in the Puget Sound area of Washington state. After graduating from Bremerton (WA) High School in 1947, she attended Olympic Junior College in Bremerton, then attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1951 with a degree in Speech and Communication. It was at the University of Washington, in one of her speech classes, that she met her future husband Loren D. Kostur. They were married November 10, 1951 in Bremerton and lived in various communities in the Seattle and Portland areas before settling in Salem, Oregon in the summer of 1961. With Loren, Rosalee raised four children.

After her youngest child started school, Rosalee worked part-time as a pre-school teacher at First Presbyterian Church before taking a full-time position as a clerk in the Marion County Assessor’s Office for nineteen years, retiring in 1994.

Rosalee had spent her entire life in the Pacific Northwest, so in retirement, she enjoyed traveling, taking group trips to Alaska, the Midwest and Washington D.C. among other destinations. An avid crocheter, Rosalee always had bags of completed pot holders and dish cloths on hand to share with whomever wanted to take two or twelve.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mabel Maston, her brothers, Gale and Wayne Maston and by her husband Loren Kostur. She is survived by her four children Wayne (Ruth) Kostur of Athena, Oregon, Nancy (Michael) Crenshaw of Gresham, Oregon, Janet (Greg Goben) Creal of Spokane, Washington and Glenn (Kathy Komoll) Kostur of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and that damn cat.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Capital Manor Community Center, 1955 Dallas Hwy. NW, Salem, OR 97304 on Saturday, June 25 at 1:00pm.
