Monica, California to Clifton Robertson and Jewel Missler. Sharlene
grew up in Los Angeles on Sunset Blvd. and later went to University of
Colorado to obtain a teaching degree. The family became well
acquainted with grief as Sharlene’s only brother, Clifton Robertson, Jr.,
was killed in Vietnam and her Mother died soon after. She met
Archibald Beckmann on a blind date, in San Diego harbor in the
Summer of 1959. She secured employment as a TWA stewardess to
make travel easier to meet with Arch who was in the U.S. Navy. They
married in December 1960.
After Arch’s resignation from active duty in the Navy in 1963, the
Beckmanns settled in Torrance, California and had 3 children; Dana,
Scott, Cliff. In 1973, Arch and Sharlene were whole-heartedly
converted to Christianity in response to God’s leading in their hearts.
Thus started a dedicated disciple life and a move to Salem, Oregon.
They purchased a 22 acre farm and the family had many wonderful
memories of farming, raising numerous animals, plum harvests,
boating trips, and many church picnics, and 4th of July celebrations on
their property. While Arch was working as realtor, investor and
Engineer professor. Shar was a busy homemaker as Marie and Karen
were added to the family. Shar was quick to lend a hand, to pray,
serve, or to take a meal to those in need. In 1974, the Beckmanns met
the Brunstad Christian Church and were consumed with a longing for
a life of victory and complete transformation.
Sharlene has 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren that
brought her much joy through the years. Proverbs 31:10-11 “Who can
find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. The heart of her
husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.” surely was
fulfilled in her life. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and
caregivers alike as she had a tremendous impact on young and old
and God’s Word was her constant guide.
