Shirley was born October 8, 1935, in Salem, Oregon, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Salem High School in 1953 and attended Oregon State University where she lived in Azalea House and graduated with a degree in home economics. She married Robert Noteboom in 1957 and taught home economics at Parrish Middle School until her first child was born in 1961.
In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing and crocheting. The farm kept her busy with lambing, cherry harvest, tending the garden and canning fruits and vegetables, and taking care of her prized dahlias. Shirley was a sales person, selling Avon, Princess House Crystal, and Park Lane jewelry as well as cherries and dahlias at farmers' markets. More recently, Shirley enjoyed concerts, playing bingo, and testing her luck at the casino.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Robert and granddaughter, Mistie Rose Schmidt. She is survived by their three children Debbie (Kevin) Schmidt, Rod (Lisa) Noteboom, and Brenda (Simon) Turner, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11am, Saturday, November 8th at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Services followed by a reception at the same location. A brief graveside service will follow at Belcrest Cemetery at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Gospel Mission or the charity of your choice.
