Virgil was born in 1935 in Woodburn, Oregon to Merrill and Edyth Lucas. Virgil and Shirley were childhood neighbors and friends and met when they were just 9 years old in elementary school. As high school sweethearts they later went on to marry in 1955. They had two children, Rodney (Kerry) Lucas and Kathryn (Shawn) Harwood. Virgil is also survived by their grandchildren: Dustin, Stephanie, Katy and Ashley as well as 7 great grandchildren, all girls! A true Patriarch, he led his family with grace, love, and integrity devoted to God.
Virgil was a beloved Brother, Husband, Father, and Grandfather who loved Camping, Fishing, ATV-ing, and enjoyed retired life traveling and taking cruises. Virgil was an inspiration on how to work hard, overcome challenges, and continue to believe in your dreams. He started at a young age working in the Plywood Mill, and later went on to start his own Lumber Mill. His legacy still carries on today in the Lumber business.
He will be dearly missed, but his family and friends cherish the lifetime of memories we all shared.
Virgil's memorial service will be held on August 26th at the East Salem Seventh Day Adventist Church at 4:30pm. All are welcome, and a reception will be held shortly after at the church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.hed-fh.com for the Lucas family.
