HOLLADAY, UT-Rarely does a man have as much impact on his family as Charles Jesse Peck ("Papa"), son of Bramwell Leanord and Ruth Peck; however, on Sunday, May 19th, after a solid bout with aggressive cancer, Jesse is now reunited with his parents, his son Kevin, and his wife of 42 years, the late Marilyn deBruin Peck.
Jesse was born in Logan, Utah on May 28th, 1931. He spent his childhood in Logan and attended Logan High School. He was smart, energetic, fun, and athletic. Upon graduating from Logan High, he joined the army. His athletic talent was quickly noticed by his fellow servicemen and he was chosen to travel the world as a boxer with the army's ambassadorial team. The fun ended, however, when the Korean War kicked off and he was called to Korea as a forward observer. After a tour in Korea, he returned to the states and married Dorothy Elene Johnson. He earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Utah and a Certificate in Physical Therapy from Stanford University. He and Elene had four children: Shauna Hooper, Shane, Randy, and Kevin Peck. Kevin unfortunately died shortly after birth. Jesse and Elene were later divorced. Jesse later married Marilyn deBruin Chamberlain, mother of Tomi Tidwell, Tracy McArthur, and Cory Chamberlain. He and Marilyn enjoyed a relationship filled with love and happiness, while Jesse continued his career in the health-care industry. He was dedicated to serving the elderly and disabled and founded and co-founded multiple businesses serving these individuals. He also felt fortunate to be able to donate time and money to scholarships, grants, and other charitable organizations.
Jesse was perfect in his life-long venture of keeping his family together. His children experience a closeness and friendship that any parent would dream of. The apples of his eye, though, are his 22 grandchildren and 38 great- grandchildren. Each of Papa's grandchildren has enjoyed a specific and independent relationship with him. Each one has also benefited from his endless supply of wisdom and counsel.
Jesse loved traveling, skiing, and boating as well as golf and tennis with his friends and family. Many summers he would coach little-league football. He was a member of the Crimson Club and enjoyed attending Utah football games. He loved spending hours working in his yard and managing his personal investments.
Over the last year, Jesse has been cared for by his loving wife Gloria Lyman Peck, whom he married on February 14, 2012. The two have enjoyed one another's company and have provided support to each other through crucial times.
Jesse was preceded by his parents Bramwell and Ruth, his wife Marilyn, his son Kevin, and his two brothers Doyle and Marlyn.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, his six children, 22 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
Services for Jesse will be held on Friday, May 24th, at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial, 3401 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City, Utah. Family will meet with friends one hour prior to services. Special thanks to MiYon Hodges for her many years of service to Jesse as his assistant and friend.
