

Charles Russell “Russ” Whitney, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at his home in SLC in the loving arms of his wife. He was born October 29, 1939 in Salt Lake City to Charles R. Whitney, Sr. and Marie Thorstrom Whitney. He attended South High School. Served 6 years in the Air Force; honorably discharged in 1968. Married Jayme Jardine (divorced); later married Patricia Curtis in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Russ worked as a formica installer with Top Haus for 27 years until he and Patricia started their own business, Whitney and Company, until their retirement in 2011. He also worked for the Salt Lake County from 2011-2013. Russ had a quick wit. He loved to ride his Harley, and go camping and fishing with his family. Russ loved spending his winters with his wife in Wellton, Arizona.
Survived by his sweetheart, Patricia; children, Richard (Olga) Whitney, Steven (Andrea) Whitney, Melanie Whitney, Christy (Brad) Sperry; stepchildren, Bobbi (Chip) Bohman, Cristi (Tim) Ady, Alan (Janell) Reilly; 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Terry K. Whitney.
Graveside services will be Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 S. Highland Dr.). There will be a viewing Sunday night at the mortuary from 5-7pm and one hour prior to services Monday. He was the love of Patricia’s life and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace in God’s grace. The family would like to thank all the caregivers for the attention given to Russ during his long battle with cancer. A special thanks to his friends, Fred Fairbanks, Dennis Hogan and Bob Little.
