Charles Carter Whitney, Charlie, died Monday March 24, 2014 after a brief fight with cancer. He was born on September 13, 1958 in Tallahassee, Florida and moved to Utah at the age of 3. He enjoyed playing tennis, working out at the gym and hiking. Charlie’s passion was music. He was a self-taught musician of tenor and alto saxophone, flute, harmonica and vocals. He started in a neighborhood garage band and ultimately was a member of the David Daniel Band performing regularly at SLC’s Dead Goat Saloon and in Park City, Utah. Charlie received a scholarship with the University of Utah Marching Band and then transferred to Salt Lake Community College where he earned an AAS in Marketing Management. Charlie was great with people, which awarded him much success in his career as Marketing/Sales Director, first at Hilton and Doubletree Hotels, and at the Tucson, Long Beach and Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureaus. After a difficult struggle with obstacles in his life, Charlie prevailed and became an inspiration to family, friends, employers and co-workers and he was always the apple in the eyes of his 6 sisters - he will be greatly missed. Charlie was preceded in death by his mother Beverly C. Whitney and is survived by his father Hardin A. Whitney, his sisters Denise Gibson (David), Telle Whitney (Bill Scholtz), Sharon Klinetop (John), Ann Bradshaw (Doug Scott), Kathryn Hartman (Eric), and Carol Walton (Richard) and 7 adoring nieces and nephews.
