Dean L Gilbert

1946 ~ 2012

With tender hearts we say good-bye to our father, brother, uncle, and friend, Dean L. Gilbert passed away May 6, 2012 in Salt Lake City.

Dean was born June 10, 1946 in Salt Lake City to James A. and Madie Mair Gilbert. He married RoLayne Johnson on Oct. 19, 1964 and was blessed with one son, Arne. Dean was a veteran and served in Vietnam.

Always the entrepreneur, Dean and his brother worked together, and developed many successful businesses, The Putter Club, Club Lone Star, Sherwood Forest Mobil Home Park, and Totems’ Club for thirty plus years. Because of his business and generosity the large Gilbert family celebrated Christmas together for over 40 years. Dean was dearly loved and will be missed.

Dean’s love of fishing and golf took him and his many friends to many wonderful vacation places where he indulged his numerous passions.

He is survived by his son, Arne Mehr, brothers, Alex (Diane), Jimmie (Donna), and sisters, Frances (Grant) Hunsaker, Susan (Frank) Christenson, Ginger (Dennis) Daniels, and sister-in-laws Sharon Gilbert and Shanna Gilbert as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many wonderful friends and dedicated employees. He is preceded in death by siblings, Duane, Jack, Rhoton, Billie, and Ethel Gilbert Dudley.

In accordance to Dean’s wishes, he was cremated.

There will be an informal memorial gathering on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Totems’, 538 South Redwood Rd., Salt Lake City, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM.
