Glen Kermit Johnson, having struggled with COPD for over a decade, decided he was done. After seeking the permission of his daughter, nephew, sister and son, he departed quickly and peacefully on Wednesday, April 13th.
Kermit was born in Provo, UT on January 12th 1946 to Glen Johnson and Leola (Seguine) Johnson Rons. He was an independent, self-made man who once he set a goal achieved it.
After a short stint at BYU, he joined the army and served in Vietnam. During the war he saw the injustice of hiring the Vietnamese to bury the PI's waste. Wearing full dress regalia, Kermit took on the task himself. In Vietnam, his lifelong passion for Photography began as he documented his experience.
After his return from Vietnam, Kermit re-met former Orem High classmate Julie (Jensen) Mayhew while both attended the University of Utah. They married in 1970 and spent the next ten productive years building Alphagraphics, Printshops of the Future. They had two children, Psarah Alice and Glen Aaron Johnson.
Kermit’s business sense continued to thrive as Alphagraphics grew to an International Company. During this time he married Keni Craven-Johnson with whom he enjoyed years of international travel. His success franchising the business afforded him the lifelong dream of early semi-retirement. More and more he enjoyed carousing with the American expat community from his property in Mexico.
He was a board member of the SLMFT (Salt Lake Martini Foundation and Trust), The Salt Shakers, Utah Printer's Association, The Bad Boys of Bucerias, and The Alta Club. He traveled with the Salt Lake Olympic Bid Committee, and was instrumental in bringing the international Alphagraphics inc headquarters to Salt Lake City.
In addition to being a devoted brother, committed father, and boisterous friend, Kermit was a skilled businessman, charismatic entrepreneur, unapologetic hedonist, and casual gourmand.
He is survived by his sister Gloria Roundy; step-siblings Gayla Folsom, Bob Helmes, Lyn Simington, and Billy Helmes; children Psarah (Brian Van Devener) and Glen Aaron Johnson; nephews Brad and Steve (Kathy) Roundy; great nieces Aimee and Brieanne; great great niece Kayla Roundy; and step-mother Lois Johnson Nelson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Max Roundy, stepfather Morris Rons, and step-sister Kathy (Peck).
A service honoring Kermit’s life will be held at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 E 100 S, Salt Lake City, Utah, on Monday, April 18 at 1:00 pm. Viewings Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and Monday at 12:00, prior to service.
