1940 ~ 2011
Joan Elizabeth Barrott Stevens Ershler, died May 10, 2011. She was born October 9, 1940.
Joan graduated from Highland High school in 1957. She married her high school sweetheart, Michael Stevens, in 1957, they later divorced. Married Lewis (Hook) Ershler in 1988.
Joan had such an infectious laugh which will be remembered by all who knew her.
She worked in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Utah, School of Medicine from 1978 to when she retired in 2004.
What do you say about someone who lived her life to the fullest. She was an avid traveler and had traveled the world. She collected many, many trinkets from all over the world which were some of her prize possessions. Whether it was family or work, she always wanted to have a “picnic” in the mountains or do something fun. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always planning family get-togethers, doing something different and fun with them and just spending time. She loved buying presents and surprises for them whether there was an occasion, or no occasion at all! She volunteered for many years at the “Childrens’ Sharing Place”. She loved children and animals and donated to many organizations. She was always supporting the “Underdog”. Joan was a loving and caring friend, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She would want us to “Celebrate” her life and remember her in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis (Hook); son, Gary; brother, Tom (Brenda) Barrett; grandchildren, Crystal and Bobby (Heather), and great-grandchildren, Jaden and Abagail and her five cat companions, Buddy, Rocky, Dora, Alex, and Sammy. Preceded in death by her daughter Julie. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite children or animal charity. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held Tuesday May 17, 2011 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be sent at www.wasatchlawn.com.
