Joy Nelson Barnett, 90, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend danced her way to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. Joy was born on June 26, 1929 in SLC to Joseph Victor and Della Stevenson Nelson. She married her sweetheart Jack William Barnett on June 25, 1949. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on their 9th wedding anniversary. They raised two sons, Brad and Todd, both deceased. When Jack passed in 2007, they had been married for 58 years.
Joy loved dancing and she taught ballet and tap for many years. She had so many happy stories of the dances she and Jack attended through the years. She loved to sew, interior decorating and scrapbooking. She loved spending time with her family and entertaining.
Joy was a graduate of West High School and was later employed by Western Union as a bookkeeper and at Young Electric Sign Company as a secretary in their Corporate office.
Joy was cared for by, and considered Diane Hernandez her ‘Guardian Angel’ and the
‘daughter she never had’ for over 2 decades, and Aaron Lewis whom she loved as a son for the past 10 years
Preceded in death by her husband Jack and sons Brad and Todd. Survived by 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a cousin and many friends.
Graveside Services to be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14 at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery Highland Drive, SLC.
