Katherine Dizikes Paulos, 90, passed away Sunday, February 28th, at her daughter’s home in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born August 8, 1919 in Draper, Utah to Greek immigrant parents, Louis and JoAnn Dizikes. Kay was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Jordan High School. She married Ernest G. Paulos on August 7, 1940. Together they made their home in Magna, Utah where they raised four children. She was very instrumental in supporting her husband to make Paulos Chevrolet a very successful automobile franchise.
Kay was a member of PEO, a past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, and a member of the Greek Orthodox Church. Kay was very involved in her children’s schools, sports and extra-curricular activities. She was the honorary mother to Phi Delta Theta Fraternity for all the years her three sons attended University of Utah and were members of the fraternity. There is a scholarship given each year to a Phi Delta Theta freshman named in her honor. She also enjoyed golfing with friends in earlier years and continued to be an avid sports fan throughout her life.
Kay, affectionately known as Yia Yia to family and friends, was a loving and doting Mother and Grandmother. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than being part of her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Kay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Howard Miller(Patty) of Huntsville, Alabama; Son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Lonnie Paulos (Shannon) of Pensacola, Florida; Son, Dr. Peter Paulos of Salt Lake City, Utah; Sister Mrs. James Cononelos (Beryl) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Fifteen Grandchildren, Sixteen Great-Grandchildren and Two Great-Great Grandchldren . She was preceded in Death by her parents, three brothers and her son, Gus Paulos.
A viewing will be held at Evans & Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City from 6:00~9:00 pm on Friday, March 5th. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6th at 11:00 am at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the University of Utah Athletics, 1825 East South Campus Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84112.
