in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications of pulmonary fibrosis at the age of
83. He was born on October 14th, 1938, to Radcliffe Raymond Nelson and
Thelma Rosely Nelson in Genola, Utah. Don was raised on the family farm and
attended Brigham Young University. He later went on to establish his own
business, Tax Planning & Associates, which is now owned and operated by
family members. On July 27th, 1962, Don married Donna Lou Smith in the Salt
Lake City LDS Temple, and were married for 60 years. They also served a two
year LDS service mission together in Salt Lake City.
Don was an adventurer, entrepreneur, beloved husband, father and friend who
was loved by all. He was also an avid outdoorsmen and a true cowboy who
loved spending time in the mountains. If he wasn’t horseback riding, you could
find him four-wheeling, snowmobiling, or hunting. He enjoyed storytelling,
giving life advice, and doing activities with his family. He was an active
member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Charismatic,
comedic, and generous, Don touched many hearts and he will be greatly
missed.
Don is preceded in death by his parents Radcliffe and Thelma Nelson,
brothers Gilbert Nelson, Burniss Nelson, Arnold Nelson and sisters Maureen
Davis, Claris Ann Nelson, Daughter-in-Law Stacey Nelson and grandson
Christian Nelson. He is survived by Donna Lou Nelson (wife), and their six
children: Robert Don Nelson (Cydnee), Rick Scott Nelson (Carol), Brent
Radcliffe Nelson (Catherine), Sherrie Sant (Chris), David Jay Nelson (Leslie),
Kristin Curtis, his nineteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The viewings and services for Don will be at the LDS ward house located at
7035 S. Nutree Drive, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. A viewing will be held on
December 21st from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. On December 22nd, there will be a
viewing from 10:00am to 11:00am followed by the funeral service from
11:00am to 12:30pm. A graveside service will be held in Santaquin, Utah at
3:00pm that same day.
