Rosamond L. Demman, 98, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on February 9, 1912 in Steamboat Rock, Iowa to Mortimer and Anna Laura Muhs Rathbone and had one older brother named Phillip. She was educated in public schools in her hometown of Red Oak, Iowa and received her B.S. Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1934. She received her M.B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1942. In 1944, she became the Vocational Coordinator at West High School. There she also met her future husband, Joseph H. Demman. Rosamond and Joe were married on April 1, 1945 and enjoyed 55 years together residing in Salt Lake City and Murray. In 1961, she was appointed as the Vocational Director for the Salt lake City School District, where she was instrumental in developing and implementing many innovative vocational programs before her retirement in 1977. She was passionate about education and encouraging everyone around her to pursue higher levels of excellence. She spent the majority of her spare time working in charitable organizations through Eastern Star, of which she was a member since 1935, and the Daughters of the Nile, serving on many committees and various positions of leadership. Rosamond enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the world with her husband, Joe, and many friends. She was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church. Rosamond is survived by brother-in-law and sister in-law Fred and Donna Demman, sister-in-law Florence Barber, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents, and brother Phillip. The family wishes to express great appreciation to the caregivers at Rocky Mountain Hospice for their kindness and compassion in caring for Rosamond. Services will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your charity of choice.
