Anne Jo Tillery joined her loving husband, Tearl Tillery, on Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 in what we can only imagine was a tearful and joyous reunion. They met and fell in love in San Angelo and wedded June 1, 1942 at Park Heights Baptist Church. While they raised their family in many corners of the world, they settled back in San Angelo and made their heart’s homestead in Grape Creek.
Anne Jo was born to Calvin B. and Era Smith on October 25th, 1922 in Abilene, Texas. She is survived by her children, daughter Carol McSpadden and son TJ Tillery of San Angelo, as well as grandsons Kevin McSpadden of San Francisco and Jeff McSpadden of New York, and Zachery and Tyler Tillery of Poplar Bluff, MO. She was blessed to have loved and known great-grandchildren Jacqueline McSpadden Fernandes, Kathryn McSpadden Fernandes, Jack McSpadden and Charlie McSpadden. She is survived by dear sisters, Rojuana Priddy of Grape Creek and Dora Pendley of Dallas.
Anne Jo had an infectious smile that made you want to know her. She was curious, smart and talented. She never knew a craft she couldn’t master and loved creating a home to warm the hearts of family and friends. She was truly a rose of her great State; she loved gardening, cooking, canning, quilting, sewing, potlucks, the heat, the wide open spaces and Texas. A humble Christian her entire life, she had unbending and steady faith and will be truly missed in the Grape Creek Baptist Church community.
The family extends our deep felt gratitude to Drs. Ty Hughston, James Mull, and Michael Johnson for the diligent and compassionate care. A special thank you to Corey Ornelas, Anne Jo’s caregiver, for her tender loving care in these last few months.
Services will be held at 10am on Monday, January 30th at Grape Creek Baptist Church, 9781 Grape Creek Road. Visitation at Johnson’s Funeral Home will be Sunday January 29th from 6-7pm at 435 West Beauregard Ave. Donations to Grape Creek Baptist Church or charity of your choice will be warmly appreciated.
Arrangements under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, TX.
