Bob Speegle was born on Jan. 19th, 1930 in Corsicana, Texas to Robert Seth and Letha Mae Speegle. He was the oldest of three children. His brother Ray Speegle now lives in Kansas and his sister Rena Speegle has gone on to be with the Lord.
They were not a family of great monetary wealth, but none the less they were indeed a very rich family. They were blessed with an abundance of love, laughter and faith in God. No matter what the circumstances, Bob learned from his parents that with God all things were possible, and how to be satisfied with what the Lord had given. He found joy in the simple things of life and would praise God for them as much as he did for anything great that might happen.
After giving Wayland Baptist a try for a semester, Bob headed to the military. He joined the Air Force and was stationed at Carlswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth. It was while he was there at church one Sunday that he took the advice of his pastor to call on a lovely young lady that was also a member there, Mildred Lucile Parker. He knew very quickly that she was the love of his life, and on July 14th, 1951 they were married. It was a partnership that lasted 63 years.
Bob left the Air Force and hired on with Phillips 66 in Hobbs, New Mexico. He worked for them for over 40 years. It was there that they had two children, David Parker and Gloria Jane. Bob moved his young family around the area from one oil camp to another until Millie made it clear that they were not moving anymore! They stayed in Andrews and began raising their children at a young age to love the Lord. They joined First Baptist Church and remained faithful leaders and servants there for many years. The richness of their love for the Lord spilled out and touched the lives of many generations while they served there.
After Bob retired, he and Millie moved to San Angelo to live at Baptist Memorials. They quickly found a church home at Immanuel Baptist and continued a life of love and service. Bob taught Sunday School, helped in the nursing home, led singing in the Chapel, and even ministered at the Alzheimer’s Unit at Sagecrest, which would become his home. There too, he loved on people, greeted people and even ministered to those who worked there. Though his mind was failing him, his deep, rich love for the Lord had not. He continued to share the rich blessing of being a follower of Christ with all around him.
On Feb. 3rd, 2015 God called Bob home. The sunset was beautiful that night and I’m convinced it was a reflection of the joy felt in Heaven as one of God’s favorite sons was finally home.
Bob is survived by his wife Millie Speegle of San Angelo; brother Ray Speegle in Winfield, Kansas; son and daughter-in-law David and Jeri Speegle of Snyder, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Jane and Kim Mehringer of Midland, Texas; six grandchildren: Amy Peteet and her husband Joe, Aaron Mehringer, Sarah Cave and her husband Tim, and Jonathan Speegle. He also had four great-grandchildren: Moses, Aaron, Mackenzie, and Jaxson.
