

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Hope Lanham Rowan, his siblings, brother Sammy Rowan, sisters Iowaka Painter, Imogene Rowan and Mary Rowan, and step-son-in-law Roy Hernandez.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Nancy Harris Rowan, daughter Roberta Rowan Lawson, step-daughters Tammy (Trent) Taylor and Teresa (Steve Canipe) Hernandez; his grandchildren USMC Sgt. Scott (Melanie) Lawson, Brian (Ruby) Gressman, Juston (Alexis) Taylor, Zachary Taylor and Victoria Hernandez; great-grandchildren Joshua, Meredith and Jackson Lawson; Scott, Julia and Leilana Gressman; and Aden Taylor; along with a very extended family whom he loved greatly.
Lindy served in the United States Coast Guard and the US Navy. He served a total of 27 years. He was in the Coast Guard from September 26, 1944 to June 6, 1946, and in the Navy from February 15, 1950 to June 30, 1973.
Lindy served as a Steward in the Coast Guard. In the Navy he served in the naval air. He flew on Constellations; he was an Aviation Machinist in Faireconron Two, VQ-2. This was a Navy Reconnaissance Squadron.
In the Coast Guard he served on the USS Samuel Chase in Tokyo Bay in World War II. In the Navy he served on the USS Layte and the USS Guadalcanal. He was a Maintenance Officer. He was a Deck Officer when the Apollo 9 was picked up in 1969. He served in the European and Pacific Theatres; also in Korea and Vietnam. He was called a “Mustang” because he worked his way up from Enlisted to Officer.
He received Navy, Marine, Air Force Commendation Medals; Meritorious Unit Commendation; Air Force “Pride” Certificate, a Letter of Commendation from Air Force for C-130 Life Raft Project, a Letter of Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy for saving a couple from a burning home in 1971.
He went on to retire from GTE.
Visitation will be Friday, October 23 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Johnson’s Funeral Home. Services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in San Angelo on October 24, at 10 am with burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Pall bearers are Brian Gressman, Juston Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Cody Harris, Chase Harris and Aaron Hajovsky. Honorary Pall Bearers are Scott Lawson, Sam Easterly and Cliff Nelson.
