

Clarence Alfred Searcy, 89, formerly of San Angelo, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, in Brady, Texas. He was born to Zachary Taylor Searcy and Lillie May Searcy on December 4, 1932 in San Angelo. Clarence grew up in San Angelo and attended Lake View High School before joining the United States Marines during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged from the military, Clarence became a general contractor and started his own company, Southwest Builders Searcy & Sons.
Clarence married Barbara (Ratliff) Searcy on August 18, 1956 and together, they had three children. Clarence and Barbara moved to Mertzon in 1974, where they raised their family. He was a proud Marine Veteran and member of the Lions Club. Clarence enjoyed tinkering and building things; over the years, he designed and built 13 homes. He was known for his jokes, riddles, sense of humor, and the stories that he would tell – preferably, without interruption!
Clarence is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Olin and Pat Searcy. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Barbara Jane Ratliff Searcy; his children; Randy (Susan) Searcy, Christie (Johnny) Poe, and Brandon (Romaie William) Searcy; his grandchildren, Courtney (Aaron) Rutherford, Calli (Kasey) King, James (Amanda) Shelby, Zachary Shelby, Angie (John) Luke, Whitney (Cooper) Riley, Jennifer Laborn, Jud (Tracey) Poe, Casey (Heather) Poe, Camille (Scott) Sparks, and Dana (Michael) Malaer. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Kaylee, Tyler and Noah Rutherford; Abigail, Addison, and Kayden King; Owen, Oliver, and Olivia Shelby; Finley Luke; Hayes and Bryce Riley; Alyson and Kiah Laborn; Tiffany (Casey) Simon; Lonnie (Whitney) Williams; Jaden Poe, Faith and Annie Poe; Emily, Lexy, Maybree, Keldon, Brinley and Paysley Sparks; and Brantley, Natalie, Madalynn, Bryson, and Bella Malear; as well as great-great grandchildren, Ryder Simon and Presley Williams, and nephew, Willie Searcy and family.
A memorial service for Clarence will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, December 3rd, at Glen Meadows Baptist Church with Pastor Mac Roller officiating.
The family would like to send a special thank you to their special caretaker, Amanda Torrez, as well as Maria, Olga, Darci and Keyla. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Clarence’s name to Hospice of San Angelo.
