

David Velasquez peacefully passed away early Sunday morning into the arms of his Heavenly Father on January 31, 2016 in Ft. Morgan, Colorado surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 64.
David was born on December 4, 1951 in Pecos, Texas to Robert and Trine Velasquez. His first 16 years in Pecos were spent playing baseball for little and teenage leagues which he enjoyed and served as an alter server for Santa Rosa Church. Then moved to San Angelo, Texas in 1968 with the family and graduated from Central High School in 1970.
David worked diligently throughout his life and was a supervisor for 18 years for Handy Packing Co. In 1990 he joined Cargill Meat Solutions in Dodge City, Kansas, transferring to Plainview, Texas for several years and then moved to Ft. Morgan, Colorado where he was a dedicated Quality Superintendent for over 16 years until his illness. His favorite past time was spent hunting and playing golf.
On December 4, 1971 he married his first wife Alicia Guzman and is preceded in death by their first born son, Abel Velasquez; their daughter, Jessica Velasquez and partner Kristi of San Antonio, Texas; their son, Jason Velasquez of Ft. Morgan; his son, Joe David Alaniz of Kingsville,Texas; grandchildren, Evan Velasquez of Lubbock, Texas and twins, Briana and Alissa Velasquez of Ft. Morgan. He is survived by his present wife Lorena Velasquez of Ft. Morgan; his parents, Robert Velasquez and wife Trine of San Angelo; three brothers, Charlie Velasquez and wife Patricia of San Angelo; Thomas Velasquez of Fredericksburg, Texas; Arthur Martinez and wife Berta of Monahans, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and beloved friends.
A rosary will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 6:00 pm. at St. Joseph Church. A memorial mass celebrating his life will be held Saturday, February 6 at 2:00 pm. in the chapel of Johnson's Funeral Home.
