Funeral services for Dennis Elkins Bolding will be Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel at 435 W. Beauregard Avenue, San Angelo, Texas. Interment will follow in the Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Garden. Robert “Bob” Devine will be officiating. (No ties required.)
Dennis was born November 1, 1938 to Felix and Verlie Bolding in Colorado City, Texas. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1957.
After graduation, Dennis worked in the oil fields then in construction for his brother, Harley. In 1963, Dennis became an entrepreneur. During his home building career in San Angelo, Dennis was the President of the San Angelo Home Builders Association. He owned many companies from construction, Austin Ford Tractor, and equipment companies. Dennis attained his life long dream of being awarded the Coors distributorship in Temple, Texas in 1975. Within a few years Dennis become involved in cutting horses then cattle. Coors was sold in 1987. Two years later, Dennis and Dixie moved to Lampasas and eventually opened a used car lot in Copperas Cove. After almost 8 years of building homes, Dennis retired in 2008.
Dennis’ interests included cutting horses, hunting, and trail rides. The PRCA named him Man of the Year in 1987. Dennis was a 32nd degree Mason and Jaycee in San Angelo. He was very involved in the Bell County MHMR and many other civic organizations. Dennis was a member and past El Presidents of the Texas Vaqueros in Kerrville, Texas. He was also a member and past director of the Ranchero Visitadores in Santa Inez, California.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dixie Ruth Bolding of Lampasas. He is also survived by his son, Dennis Kirk Bolding of Lampasas; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Dee Cook and Walter Cook of Zephyr; grandchildren (whom he loved so deeply, was very proud of, and always enjoyed their company), Anthony Quint Cozart of Granbury, Clintin Judd Bolding and wife Diana Bolding of Austin, Megan Nicole Walker and husband Steven Walker of Justin, Amanda Nicole Stilwell and husband Chad Stilwell of Fort Worth, and Cheyenne Autumn Cook of Stephenville; great grandchildren Wellington (Wells) Judd Bolding, Breana Marie Cozart, Adyson Riley Phillips, and Makenzie Leigh Walker. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Dennis was preceded in death by his son, Donald Elkins Bolding; his parents, Felix Nolan Bolding and Verlie May Lay Bolding; and his brothers and sisters, Jessie Lucile Hardin, Eril “Ducks” Sandefur, Felix Nolan “Mutt” Bolding, Jr., William Orville Bolding, Wanda Ruby Nelson, Reginald “Reggie” Larry Bolding, Harley Porter Bolding, and James Dudley Bolding.
Dennis will be missed be everyone that knew him. However, we know that he fought as long as he could and has now finished his race.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, West Freeway, Suite 100, Fort Worth, Texas 76102.
Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony Cozart, Clint Bolding, Larry Bolding, Burton Sandefur, Kerry Bolding, and Stan Bolding.
