Dorothy M. Barnes, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 13, 2010. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughter and son-in-laws' home. She was born in Seneca, IL on January 15, 1928 to George and Elva Coleman. Mom told us many wonderful stories that she had about growing up with her three sisters and her brother. Mom had several jobs throughout her life, but was most proud of working at the Seneca Shipyard during WWII, and at the Rock Island Arsenal were she retired from after 27 years. Mother was an avid card player, and was always ready for a good game of bridge or euchre. She loved to read and loved to travel in her younger years. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Cheryl Ann McKigney and family in Anderson, IN and Bobbie and husband Jack Brandt in San Angelo, TX. She was blessed with five grandchildren, John Aikin Jr (deceased), Cheri Ann McKigney, David, Kurt and Jeff Crater in IL, and thirteen great-grandchildren, her three sisters, Shirley Ulis, Darlene Baughman and Carol Poncher, and her beloved dog Pugsley. Mom was preceded in death by her parents, brother George Coleman Jr, husband John (Red) McKignery, infant son Bruce Wayne McKigney, grandson Brian Aikin. A celebration of Dorothy's like will be held at a later time. Memorials maybe made in her name to The Heights Church. Mom, God blessed us when he made you our mother. We will see you in heaven one day. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home. Friends and Family are invited to sign an online register book at www.johnsons-funeralhome.com
