

Douglas Ray Lawrence, 60, of San Angelo, passed away unexpectedly while celebrating his 60th birthday with his family. Doug (aka Poppy, and Coach Lawrence) was born on September 15, 1951 in Snyder, TX. Visitation will be held from 6:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Douglas Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Lawrence.
Doug is survived by his wife Melody Pyburn Lawrence, his children Rian Freeman and wife Erica of Lubbock, Makai Freeman an spouse Scott Roberts, Merrit Freeman and fiancé Brad Holmes: a brother, Bobby Miller and wife Ina, a nephew Chad Miller of Morgan City, Louisiana, his granddaughter Addison Jenkins of San Angelo, three grandsons, Reid, Holt, and Drew Freeman of Lubbock, and he had a new grandbaby on the way in January. He is also survived by numerous special aunts, uncles, cousins, his beloved pets Max, Snoopy, and Pig and many lifelong friends he cherished.
Doug grew up in Morgan City, Louisiana and graduated from Tulane University. His lifelong passion was football and teaching. He coached for thirty years before retiring from Lake View High School in 2004. His pride and joy was spending time with his grandbabies, teaching students, encouraging others and making people laugh. He will be dearly missed.
Graveside memorial service will be held at the Baker Cemetery in Breckenridge, Texas at 2:00p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011.
