Francis Marion Tarter

Marion Tarter, 96, of San Angelo, died Friday, December 31, 2010 at a local hospital. Funeral service will be held at 10:00AM Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Alvis Fisher and Van Pendergrass officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.

Marion was born on September 21, 1914 in Windom, TX to C. E. Tarter and Flora (Powell) Tarter. He married Hazel Johnson on November 3, 1933.

He owned and operated the Cactus Patch Truck Stop in San Angelo and was owner of Cactus Tire Warehouse prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Sherwood AA Group since 1964. He was a member of The Masonic Lodge and West Angelo Church of Christ.

Marion is preceded in death by his wife Hazel of 62 years, 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

He is survived by his companion Betty Anderson and her children, Bobby Anderson and wife Theresa and daughter Peggy Anderson and their children; daughters; Barbara Morgan and husband Bill of Wichita Falls, TX, Judy Kaufman and husband Martin of Bela Vista, AR and Flo Loika and husband Larry of San Angelo, 6 grandchildren; Jimmy Morgan and wife Rena, Mike Morgan, Randy Morgan and wife Lori, Dowe Kaufman and wife Lisa, Aaron Loika and his favorite granddaughter Kimberly Burrus and husband Deen, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, brother Joe Tarter of El Paso, TX and sister Ruth Gallucei of Florida.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Morgan, Mike Morgan, Randy Morgan, Dowe Kaufman, Deen Burrus and family friend Larry Tucker.
