

Big Lake, Texas – Hewitt Osymn “H.O.” Allen, 89, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012. H.O. was born August 18, 1923 in Lubbock, Texas to George E. and Bertha Allen. H.O. served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and on December 18, 1945 received an honorable discharge. H.O. made Big Lake, Texas his home in 1947 and on July 23, 1954 he married the love of his life, Dorothy May Burks. H.O. worked for Petro Lewis Oil Company and retired in 1986.
H.O. loved to play golf and dominoes and in his honor the first annual “H.O. Allen Classic” Golf Tournament was started in 2009. The first golf scholarship has been established and will be awarded to a student in May, 2013.
H.O. is survived by a niece Lela Lewis and a nephew Dwight Thomas of Lubbock, TX; sister in-law Betty Fields and nephew George Allen of Manchester, CT; and numerous other nieces and nephews; and his extended family Nancy Ratliff of Big Lake, TX; Jaime and Caline Martinez, Bryson Baggett, McKenna Baggett and Kambry Martinez of Midland, TX; and Chris and Amy Ratliff, Taylor Ratliff and Brock Alan Ratliff of San Angelo, TX. H.O. was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, his brothers Dale Allen, Howard Allen, Lloyd Allen, Garland Allen, Harland Allen and sisters Tressie Exum, Writa Kitchen and Loree Senn.
Pallbearers will be Byron Bitner, Zane Bitner, Jerry Chick, Casey Davidson, Mickey Davidson, Jerry Davis, Larry Isom, Rick McPhaul, Marty Russell and George Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers will be a host of golf buddies and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, November 19, 2012 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Big Lake, Texas. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. with J.B. Bitner, Jr. officiating. H.O. will be laid to rest at Glen Rest Cemetery, Big Lake, Texas. Arrangements are by Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Big Lake Golf Association or the Trailblazers Meals On Wheels Program.
