

Jo Johnson, 90, of Veribest died at 7 PM Wednesday evening, March 16, 2011 at Royal Estates of San Angelo. Jo was born in Palestine, Texas on November 23, 1920 to Luke Matthew and Martha Shipp Wilson. Jo moved to San Angelo in the 1940 and worked at Goodfellow Air Force Base during World War II. She met , then married her husband, Frank Johnson on November 11, 1945 of the Mullins-Veribest community. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Siblings (Beulah Collins, Beatrice White, Luther Wilson, Luke Wilson, Hamilton Wilson, Paul Wilson, Ralph Wilson and Grace Byrd)
In her 90 years of living, she traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii but the love of her life was her family. She enjoyed being a part of her children’s lives, especially her granddaughter and great-grandchildren. Jo provided many years of love, joy, and happiness to her family and friends. Jo lived and helped her husband farm in the Veribest area their entire life together. She attended school in Bullard, Texas along with her siblings who also moved to the San Angelo area. Jo was heavily involved and a charter member of many Veribest church and community organizations. She was an active member of the Veribest United Methodist Church, Charter member of the United Methodist Women and had served on all church and community committees throughout the 65 years of her presence in Veribest. She helped charter T.O.P.S. chapter of Veribest, and the Extension Homemakers of Tom Green County in Veribest. She served on the local and district offices of the Extension homemakers organization and on the district committee of UMW. She was extensively involved in Mission School activities and attended several conferences. She was a very proud delegate to the Southwest Conference of the UMC. She assisted with the writing of the history book of Tom Green County (Tom Green County Chronicles of our Heritage) She continued to be active in genealogy. And continued overseeing the care of the Mullins Cemetery until she moved to Royal Estates. She continued to operate the farm until her death. Jo was loved and very respected by many people in the Veribest community as well as in the San Angelo area. She enjoyed her time that she lived at the Royal Estates and made many new friends, especially her constant companions, Hope Guzman and Monica Salinas. Jo celebrated her 90th birthday with a reception at Royal Estates this past November and enjoyed nearly 200 people celebrating the event with her.
Services for Jo Johnson will be at the Johnson’s Funeral Home on Saturday , March 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Mike Thomson officiating assisted by Gini Christian. Burial will be in the Mullins Cemetery. All are invited to visit with the family and friends of Jo Johnson, at the Veribest United Methodist Church following interment. Pallbearers for Jo will be Ralph Kellermeier, Glen Kellermeier, Mark Deike, Jimmy Spencer, John Beverly, and Mark Kellermeier.
She is survived by her daughters, Susie Johnson of Veribest, Candice Marlar and husband, Vernon of Fort Worth; her granddaughter, Jennefer Campbell and husband ,Shane of Bedford, TX; and her beloved great-grandchildren Duncan Campbell and Isabella Campbell of Bedford, TX; special nieces, Maurine Fiveash and family of Crockett and Barbara Burrage of San Angelo, A very special nephew, Billy Mack Spencer and wife, Barbara of San Angelo; and an “adopted daughter”, Mitzie Deike of Veribest.
