Jarrott Lynn Smith passed away into the arms of her heavenly father on May 2, 2012 at age 56. She was surrounded by the affectionate care and devotion of her family, in her beautiful home, in Christoval, Texas when she peacefully traveled to heaven. Jarrott had been ill for the last 12 years from a rare disease that attacked her body. She struggled to fight off the infection as her husband, Michael Clay Smith, watched over her and stood beside her until the last minutes of her life here on earth.
Jarrott was born October 13, 1955. She attended school in San Angelo, beginning kindergarten at Trinity Lutheran. She then went to Travis Crockett elementary, John Glenn Jr. High School, St Mary’s High School in San Antonio, and Escuela de Artesanies in Chapala, Mexico. She graduated from Central High School in 1974. After high school, she attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.
In the summers she attended Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas until she became a Hilltopper. She loved horses; she could shoot a rifle, bow and arrow, pitch a tent, and in the same day attend a ballroom dance. Before second term, her mother and father would take month-long vacations exploring every mountain, stream, canyon and campsite they could find. These were the fundamentals that would later help her raise two wild boys.
Jarrott Lynn and Michael Clay Smith met her first year at Southwest Texas University in San Marcos, Texas. Shortly after the two had their first date, they immediately knew they were soul mates. Jarrott Lynn and Michael Clay were married at First Baptist Church on September 20, 1975. They were happily married for 37 years. Jarrott had her first son, Preston Jennings, in 1978; and her second son, Phillip Jarrett, in 1981. She lived her life for her husband and her two boys. She adored her daughters-in-law, Kate and Amanda Smith. Jarrott had two handsome grandsons, Cooper Jack (5yrs) and Milo Jameson Smith (16 mths); and one beautiful granddaughter, Lilah Marie Smith (7mths), before she passed.
Jarrott was the type of person who could illuminate the entire room with her smile. She was never shy and always said what was on her mind. She was an excellent decorator, a talented artist, and a connoisseur of unique jewelry. She had a giving heart and always made time to help those in need.
Michael’s Aunt Evie was Jarrott’s dearest friend and shopping sidekick. When Aunt Evie became too weak to keep up with her house, Jarrott was always there to help, despite her illness. Jarrott and Evie passed away within days of each other, and will continue to enjoy each other’s company in paradise.
Time will heal our broken hearts; and her joyful spirit will live on in our cherished memories.
Jarrott Lynn Smith is survived by her husband, Michael Clay Smith, her elder son, Preston, daughter-in-law, Kate, and their two sons, Cooper Jack and Milo Smith; her younger son, Phillip, daughter-in-law, Amanda, and their beautiful daughter, Lilah Marie Smith; her father, Robert Arlen Nickel, stepmother, Beverly Nickel, her mother, Elta Joyce McAfee and stepfather, Millard McAfee; her sister, Elisa Michelle Steger, her husband, Scott Steger, and their two daughters, Mattie Claire and Caroline Michelle Steger; mother-in-law, Nell Dean Smith, brother-in-law, John Smith, and his wife, Brenda. Her Grandparents, Homer G. and Edith Nickel, Thomas Jarrett and Elta T. Murphey preceded her in death.
